Short Ends
Alek Talevich | Features, Local Film
My biggest problem with this movie was why the theater didn't STOP THE VIEWING AS SOON AS IT WAS CLEAR THAT THE SOUND ISSUES WERE NOT SOMETHING THEY COULD FIX. As a director myself I can only imagine the sick feeling of watching your first time movie go to hell due to technical issues, but the fact that STIFF/Central Cinema/the projectionist/WHOEVER kept the thing going for 30 minutes as the audio synch got worse and worse defies all common sense. I commend the director and his actors for making light of the situation since I would have probably would have been a LOT LESS happy about the technical issues if I were up there and wouldn't have been afraid to say it. As for my review of what I saw before the sound screwed up: the acting did what it needed to do, the sound was muddy as hell (but audible) and the "community parody" jokes were hilarious to anybody who has ever had to sit in a class like that. In conclusion, YES, STIFF owes us another screening of this film and hopefully a free one for those of us who didn't ask for our money back.

I have to agree with bluejhell's comments on the length, but the sheer ambition of the movie was stunning. Combined with Emerald City, this was the most polished screening of the festival IMHO.
